Looking into the Past

10 11 2008

Looking back for the first few months of school makes me wonder. Have I impoved? Are more people reading my blog? Am I doing better? It kind of makes you worried about how you are doing. I think that I wrote a lot of school posts and not many personal posts and they were all about volleyball.

So far this year I have wrote 18 posts. I also left a lot of comments too. So far I have 9 comments. (I accidentaly deleted some.)

Blogging was something new to me last year and after a while I began to like it. I was kind of worried about the whole world reading my posts but after a while I got used to the fact that we used these pretty much everyday. I learned how to write a good post and how to make an interesting title so that people would read my blog. This year we introduced these to the grade 7’s. I thought it would be hard for them not using a blog before but my prediction was wrong. Thoroughout the 2 months I think that I have wrote quite alot. I think that I could improve this by writing better posts with links and videos and I also think that I should write more personal posts that I have been.

We used RSS a lot too. iGoogle was the main one we used. I thought that this was cool because we got to have an updated social studies textbook online. I thought it was great using it.

Nata Primary School’s Volleyball Tournament

27 10 2008

The Nata Primary School’s volleyball team has a tournament this weekend. They are competing against 19 other schools. This team includes boys and girls, with approximately 9 boys and 7 girls. Last year they won first place. They are looking for a sponsor to help them with new uniforms.

I thought that this was a good idea because it is something that people can teach and the young people can learn. I think if there was more teaching, there would be more learning and then people would have more intelligence when it comes to sports. This also would lead to more exercise with the students and that would be great.

Imagine if we could travel to another country to stay there for a while and teach them a sport from your country. If you had the chance to do this would you? Think about how happy you would make someone small and to see their smiles would be worth millions.

The Power of the Sun and the Wind.

21 10 2008

I was just checking out one of the blogs I have subscribed to called World Changing and something caught my eye. It was a post about a light powered by the sun and the wind. It is a street light that will be in Canada. I thought this might be something cool to write about.

This streetlight is called Philips Light blossom. It will reduce light pollution and help the environment by doing so. The light is in the form of a flower and the “petals” rotate around and around collecting wind energy. The lamps will dim during the night and when the motion sensors are activated they will become bright.

I thought that this was a great idea because now people are making things to help the environment. Personally I think that the company should make more like this that can go inside your home and make energy.

Here is a video about this Light Blossom:

FIRE, FIRE!

20 10 2008

Greece is ablaze. There is a large fire around that area, and it is leading to many disasters. The fire has reached the ancient city of Olympia. Simple things like flicking your cigarette out the car window can set a fire there.

Some people are blaming the disaster on Global Warming and arsonists. Here are some pictures from Greece:

Here is a home video:

Imagine if this was happening in your country. What would it be like for you? This is actually something to sit down and think about, how would this affect your life?

We may not think much of it because this is in another country and all we worry about is what is happening in our country. I think that this is an issue because this is showing us something important. I thought that this is something sad, we don’t care about what is happening around us.

Commenting

15 10 2008

I thought that this would be a good topic to write about because our class is doing lots of commenting.

Commenting is not very hard. The purpose of commenting is to encourage people to write more and to give them tips to improve. I think that if you do so people understand that they can do better and they try harder each and every time they write a new post. Also, writing comments starts conversations between two people. Doing this people want to write more so that the audience will be happy. Leave Comments and make people happy! =)

The meaning of being Canadian or American

10 10 2008

Making a Photostory.
Making our photostory wasn’t as easy as I thought it may be. It was hard to put your own story inside the photostory. My class made our video’s about what it means to be Canadian while the class in L.A wrote about what it means to them about being American. Our video’s had some similarities and some differences like you would expect.

Similarities between Our videos and theirs.
Personally, I thought that the Canadian videos and the American videos were equally good. They both had personal stories which was like adding your own stories into the photostories. They also had some great meaning. Each video had it’s own meaning, but the thing that I thought was cool was although we are from different countries we all had the same idea on how are our countries are both free. I also believe that I thought that was something that was cool but there were some differences.

Differences between Ours and Theirs.
Just because we are from different countries doesn’t mean that we have different feelings about each of our countries. One of the things I noticed between the videos was that we each had different ideas of our countries. The kids in Los Angeles wrote about their freedom in America and most of us wrote about our experiences with Canadian nature. I thought that our videos would be completely different then ours because they lived in a different country when the truth is we both like the freedom we have in our countries and we are happy with the features that they give us.

Overall I had fun doing this project and if you would like to see our class’s videos and the class in Los Angeles, go here.
